Sitting Down with Diana

What brought you into this genre?
Hi, thanks so much for having me. I became an avid reader when I found my first romance novel (Jude Deveraux’s A Knight in Shining Armor) tucked away in a corner of my high school library. I read that book in one day, and became totally addicted to the romance genre. The more books I read, the more I wanted to be a writer. Five years ago, I finally decided it was time, and sat down to write my first book.
What’s your favorite distraction from writing?
Spotify. I love putting together playlists for the books I’m working on. If you’re on Spotify, you can find the playlists for all three book in my Desert Monsoon series. Each song has to do with a plot point in the story or inspiration for scenes. For Love Over Logic, I was stuck writing the ending. I just couldn’t figure it out, until I heard Taylor Swift’s latest album and the song “Getaway Car.” If you read the book, you’ll see what I mean. 🙂
Who are your favorite characters and which book can they be found in?
I know I’m a romance writer, but one of my favorite characters is Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series. I love that she’s smart and resourceful. Also, she’s a witch! What’s not to love?

Can you shed some light on how you balance family life and writing life?
I have two kids in grade school, so it’s not a huge deal to balance my personal life with my writing. I usually get up at 6:30am to make breakfast and pack lunches before I put them on the bus. After they leave, I get six hours of uninterrupted writing time. I only write Monday through Friday, and reserve weeknights and weekends to be with the hubs and kids. It’s a good balance for us. Summers are a bit tricky when kids don’t have school, but I still manage to get at least four hours of writing time since the kids like to sleep in.
